This software is designed to work with tablet PCs, the model i suggest for use with my software is the wonderful HP TM2, or the older model TM2Z. It also can be used with lenovo multitouch tablet and DELL XT tablet. All these tablets support multitouch, have capacitive digitizers, but again i suggest the HP TM2, due to it having a wonderful capacitive digitizer from WACOM; it’s really good quality tablet.
The CPU power of TM2 is perfect to run Traktor; I tested with Ableton without any troubles. Some guys think the CPU on HP TM2 doesn’t have enough power, but that is wrong.

The major problem with present touchscreen controllers is that you don’t have tactile feedback (you can’t feel with your fingers knobs, buttons, sliders etc etc), for that reason you need put your eyes all time on the touchscreen device for use the controller, and lose the focus over music software.

Emulator is a software where you have all what you need on same screen and combine the power of multitouch, the useful standard mouse and the native interface of software to be controlled all in one nice and useful GUI.

This software runs under windows 7; the first version I plan to launch only works on tablet PCs with 12.1 inch screen (1280×800). I decided to do this because the big LCD multitouch screens available on the market aren’t really accurate and enough for pro usage; [optical sensors can] generate false touch, ghost touches, etc. and you lose portability [on larger screens].

Here  a workaround for all users with HP TX2z and DELL XT and XT2 multitouch tablets users running windows 7, this temporal solution disable multitouch on your TX2z tablet.
Older single touch tablets with any MS Windows OS, just apply step 4

1: In first place you need install the lastest drivers and software provided by HP for N-TRIG digitizer, click here and download

2: Install the drivers and restart your machine. If driver upgrade the firmware shutdown, and then start again.

3: Go to uninstall appz and  uninstall N-TRIG driver (HP), make click on yes when software ask for completely remove, when finish restart your machine again. Dell users just uninstall N/TRIG from wundows uninstall tool.

4: Now open pen and touch panel inside control panel, and disable  Press and hold Richt-clik feature, after that final change, windows work with default digitizer driver, and all momentary buttons in MonoTouchLive work correctly.

Also, you can see how multitouch is not accurate when have the fingers very close, this no is a big issue but can be under some situations when you use your fingers very close, in some multitouch software. (this is a bug from the Nextwindow multitouch sensor used on the video)

Under this next video you can see momentary buttons and how with standar mouse can activate the button, when i press left mouse click, button in the software is activated. You can see how not work.
The button is only activated when you remove the finger of the screen…………….if you need push the button and leave just pressed for some moment………..just not possible, the only way to do, is draging your finger without stop over the button. On video 3, i show the clear example about that

This is the best and clear example about what i explained before.
With real mouse, can click the button, and momentary button react perfectly to mouse events.
When try repeat using the touchscreen, just not work.
The only way leave the button pressed, is draging my finger over the button.

NOTE: i found similar troubles with capacitive sensors from company N-Trig.
N-Trig sensors are present in the major percent of portable multitouch market.

The solution:
Register aplication to receive WM_TOUCH instead WM_GESTURE mouse events.

Final step is disable “Press and hold for righ-clicking” from the Pen and Touch panel.

SECOND UPDATE UPDATE 10/02/2010
Under the VIDEO 1, aplication i show is PAINT, and you can see under that aplication touchscreen work aftertouch.
Somebody can think………..how is possible if that is a multitouch aplication and should be already registered to receive WM_TOUCH instead WM_GESTURE mouse events.
Yes, that is correct aplication is already registered, all what you need do is disable “Press and hold for righ-clicking” from windows Pen and Touch panel.
Now you can see on this video aplication ink the point on touch and not after touch:

Anyway, disable Press and hold for righ-clicking is part of the fix, you see work in this video due paint is aplication registered to receive WM_TOUCH instead WM_GESTURE mouse events.

After disable “Press and hold for righ-clicking” i check again with my software, but due no is aplication regsistered to receive WM_TOUCH, just continue without work.

Prerequisites for test public beta 1:

How install and setup:

1- Download MonoTouchLive

Download click here

After download,  unzip the file in your root folder C:\  all files should be unziped under folder MonoTouchLive.
If already have MTL installed, just uncompress the file inside, MTL3 not overwrite older files, and use the same activation key.

MTL3.exe, this is monotouchlive software
MTL3 Project this folder contain empty ableton set with midi already mapped for all functions, only work with Ableton 8.1 or higher
MTL3.cfg, this file save MonoTouchlIive parameters.

Now continue:

2- Download and install MIDI Yoke
Download and install MIDI Yoke, restart your machine if needed.
Under windows vista or windows 7,  before install disable UAC, then restart, install MIDI yoke, now restart, then enable UAC again, restart.

3-SETUP MonoTouchLive + Ableton + MIDI Yoke
Open Ableton 7.
Now open the set provided on Monotouchlive zip file, MTL3.als, this file have all cotrollers mapped, you can use for skip remap all and make faster test of MonoTouchLive
Open on Ableton, check midi configuration.
You need enable midi YOKE in this way:

Setup on ableton MIDI YOKE MIDI IN PORT 1
Setup on ableton MIDI YOKE MIDI OUT PORT 3

Now continue:

4- Now connect your touch screen LCD to your PC,
Drag some tunes to ableton and start play !

Remember you can use MonotouchLive with tablets PCs or Touchscreen PC, MAC runing Bootcamp, or can use PC for take control of MAC OSX using the cross plataform MIDI over lan tool:

MonoTouchLIve not cause Ableton crash, i have too many reports of Ableton freezes, but i discover all that troubles happen machines whith warez version of ableton.
Please use legal software!
Allways open Ableton Live first and then open MonoTouchLive software, do in that order.
For open MonoTouchLive in full screen on secondary display, just drag MonoTouchLive (without execute the aplication) to extended desktop and then open the aplication to extended desktop.
