The pentatonic scale is called on that way because it is composed of five tones per octave. It is used in many traditional songs. It produces a slightly oriental sonority. It is widely used in hard rock, heavy metal and blues. Sometimes, in music class, we teach children and young people to create short songs based on this scale. In the following video of Bobby McFerrin shows a very simple and practical power of this scale and shows that besides this scale we printed in our minds, even if never studied music.
At the end of the video Bobby says that wherever he repeated this simple experiment, the result was the same.
